Mobile implementation, IoT integration, contactless, efficient, and fast processing are desired features for any novel system developed today. Fingerprints can be easily damaged due to physical work and are not informative enough for identity authentication, hence fingerprint-based systems are not preferred nowadays. Similarly, with iris authentication, users have to suffer from an uncomfortable acquisition mode. Face-based biometric systems are not preferred since information is always exposed to the environment and can be easily stolen for identity forgery. Palmprint and Palm Vein based recognition is a current trend in biometric design. In this pandemic era, there is a need for a robust, smart, and efficient system that can identify a person without any physical contact. Such a system can have multipurpose applications including thermal scanning, authorization, biometric attendance, and various sensing modules. Palmprint-based biometric systems have several special advantages such as rich features, less distortion, easy self-positioning, highly accurate recognition rate, and fast processing speed. A touchless system is also preferred due to the huge demand for privacy and sanitation. Robust hand tracking, image enhancement, and fast computation processing algorithms are required for effective touchless and mobile-based recognition.
